The Taiwan Tourism Bureau initially offered a promotional subsidy program providing certain foreign travelers visiting Taiwan with a consumption voucher worth approximately 210,000 KRW (5,000 TWD) until June 30, 2025. This popular program has now been extended through September 30, 2025. After pre-registering online, travelers' eligibility is determined through a lottery game upon arrival, awarding an electronic voucher (EasyCard) that can be used on public transportation, convenience stores, and participating shops across Taiwan.

About the Taiwan Travel Subsidy (Taiwan the Lucky Land) Program

The Taiwan Travel Subsidy Program is a large-scale initiative launched by the Taiwan Tourism Bureau to attract foreign independent travelers to explore Taiwan.

Program Overview

  • Duration: May 1, 2023 – September 30, 2025 (originally ending June 2025, now extended)
  • Eligibility: Foreign independent travelers (FIT) visiting Taiwan for 3 to 90 days. Group tours, Taiwanese nationals, or foreign residents in Taiwan are not eligible.
  • Subsidy Amount: 5,000 Taiwan Dollars (TWD), approximately 210,000–230,000 KRW
  • Application Period: Pre-registration on the official website is required at least one day prior to arrival, starting seven days before arrival. (Taiwan local time)

How to Apply

1. Online Pre-registration

Visit the Taiwan Tourism Bureau's official event website at 5000.taiwan.net.tw and register by clicking on “Register.” Enter your passport details (English name, passport number, nationality), flight information (airport, arrival date/time, flight number), and email address. Ensure these details exactly match your passport and flight information, as discrepancies will invalidate any winnings.

2. Choose Your Subsidy Option

  • Accommodation Discount Coupon: Redeemable only at specified hotels and lodgings.
  • Electronic Voucher (Recommended): A 5,000 TWD credit will be loaded onto an EasyCard (iPass, EasyCard, icash2.0). This offers greater flexibility, as most travelers book accommodations in advance.

3. Receive Your QR Code

After completing registration, a QR code will be generated on screen. Make sure to save or screenshot this QR code, as you will need it to participate in the event upon arrival in Taiwan.


How to Win and Redeem Your Subsidy

  1. Upon arrival, visit the Taiwan the Lucky Land booth located in the airport’s arrivals hall.
  2. Select your preferred language (Korean available) on the onsite kiosk and scan your saved QR code.
  3. Play the “Bear Lottery” game within 10 seconds by selecting one of the falling bears on the screen.
  4. If you win, a congratulatory message displaying “Congratulations! 5,000 Taiwan Dollars” will appear.
  5. Proceed to the event desk to present your QR code, boarding pass, and round-trip flight reservation for verification. Once confirmed, 5,000 TWD will be credited onto your EasyCard.

Usage Details and Restrictions

Where You Can Use Your Subsidy

  • Public transportation: metro, buses, and more
  • Convenience stores: 7-Eleven, FamilyMart, and others
  • Retail shops: Watson's and similar outlets
  • Popular tourist attractions: National Palace Museum, Red House, Yehliu Geopark, etc.
  • Souvenir shops: Saint Peter (pineapple cakes, nougat), Roufu, etc.

Usage Limits

  • Maximum spend of 1,500 TWD per transaction
  • Maximum of 3,000 TWD per day

Validity Period

The subsidy must be used within 90 days from the date of winning.

Other Important Restrictions

  • No additional top-ups allowed
  • No refunds on remaining balances

Tips and Important Notes

  • Online rumors such as “select the shining bear near the 10-second mark” exist to increase winning chances, but these are unverified and should be taken as entertainment only.
  • Ensuring the accuracy of all entered information matching your passport and flight details is critical to avoid disqualification.
  • The program may end earlier than scheduled if the budget runs out, so it’s advisable to apply promptly.
  • Since autumn is a peak travel season in Taiwan, obtaining your QR code well in advance is strongly recommended.
